Birth weight (BW)

The weight of a calf that is taken within 24 hours of birth. A calf with a high BW will generally have a greater correlation of calving problems but may produce a larger and more desirable end product. A calf with a lower BW may have little calving difficulties but may not grow to a desired weight.
