Subterranean Amazon
The underground river that flows 13,000ft below ground directly beneath the Amazon river on the surface. Measuring 3,700 miles long, the Amazon river is the second longest in the world, shorter only than the Nile.
The underground river was discovered by studying temperature variations at 241 inactive oil wells drilled in the 1970s and 1980s by Brazil's state-run oil company which inidated the movement of water.
