Sometimes referred to as “Big Blue” IBM is a multinational corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. It manufactures computer hardware and software and provides information technology and services.
(1) A repository of data to which a federated server can connect and then retrieve data by using wrappers. A data source can contain relational databases, XML files, search algorithms, table-structured files, or other objects. In a federated system, data sources appear as a single collective database. See also foreign server.
(2) In JDBC, an interface that provides a logical representation of a pool of connections to a physical data source. Data source objects provide application portability by making it unnecessary to supply information specific to a particular database driver.
(3) The means by which an application accesses data from a database.
Industry:Software
(1) A device that moves data on behalf of the server. A network-attached storage (NAS) file server is a data mover.
(2) The program that copies data when a backup of the control data sets is being made.
Industry:Software
(1) A representation of one thing to another.
(2) In BMS, the process of transforming field data to and from its displayable form.
(3) The process of transforming data from one application-specific format to another.
(4) The act of developing and maintaining a map.
Industry:Software
(1) A device that regenerates signals in order to extend the range of transmission between data stations or to interconnect two branches.
(2) In a Tivoli environment, a managed node that receives a single copy of data and distributes it to the next tier of clients.
Industry:Software
(1) A representation of the contents of main storage that was captured during a suspected i5/OS failure. This memory content is used for problem analysis.
(2) A process of collecting data from the system's main storage. It can be done automatically by the service processor as a result of a system failure, or it can be performed manually by the operator when there appears to be a system failure.
Industry:Software
(1) A dialog between a terminal and a message processing program using IMS conversational processing facilities. See also conversational processing.
(2) In IMS Connector for Java, the dialog between a Java client program and a message processing program.
Industry:Software
(1) A request for information from a database based on specific conditions: for example, a request for a list of all customers in a customer table whose balances are greater than $1000.
(2) A component of certain SQL or XQuery statements that specifies a result set.
(3) In interactive systems, an operation at a workstation that elicits a response from the system.
(4) In a Tivoli environment, a combination of statements that are used to search the configuration repository for systems that meet certain criteria. The query object is created within a query library.
(5) A method for filtering and sorting requirements in views by limiting either the values of one or more attributes or traceability and specifying the order in which to display the filtered requirements. See also sorting.
(6) A reusable request for information about one or more model elements
Industry:Software
(1) A dictionary that enables users to search for synonyms of their query terms when they search a collection. See also category tree.
(2) The hierarchical classification of information according to a known system that is used to easily discuss, analyze, or retrieve that information.
Industry:Software
(1) A request that serves as the interface into operating system functions, such as allocating storage. The SVC protects the operating system from inappropriate user entry. All operating system requests must be handled by SVCs.
(2) An instruction that interrupts the program being run and passes control to the supervisor so that it can perform the specific service indicated by the instruction.
Industry:Software
(1) A digital multimedia resource that is stored for later retrieval as requested by an application. An example of such a resource is a digitized video or audio file. An asset is stored as a file in a multimedia file system supported by the data pump.
(2) In the Reusable Asset Specification (RAS), a collection of related artifacts packaged to provide solutions to a recurring problem, along with the supporting files to understand and apply the asset.
(3) A collection of artifacts that provide a solution to a specific business problem. Assets can have relationships and variability or extension points to other assets.
