Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. (ASA) develops and markets aviation supplies, software, and books for pilots, flight instructors, flight engineers, airline professionals, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, aviation technicians and enthusiasts. Established in 1947, ASA also provides ...
A high-pressure fuel pump used on a compression-ignition reciprocating engine. The injection pump forces a measured amount of fuel as an atomized spray into the combustion chamber of the engine. The high-pressure, high-temperature air in the cylinder ignites the atomized fuel as it leaves the injector nozzle.
Industry:Aviation
A high-resistance resistor placed between the output of an electrical power supply and ground.
The function of a bleeder resistor is to draw a fixed current for improved regulation, or stabilization, and to bleed off high-voltage charges from the capacitors when the equipment is shut off.
Industry:Aviation
A high-resolution color display that is equipped with the controller-alert system hardware/software which is used in the precision runway monitor (PRM) system.
The display includes alert algorithms providing the target predictors, a color-change alert when a target penetrates or is predicted to penetrate the no transgression zone (NTZ), a color-change alert if the aircraft transponder becomes inoperative, synthesized voice alerts, digital mapping, and like features contained in the precision runway monitoring (PRM) system.
Industry:Aviation
A high-strength alloy steel in which chromium and molybdenum are the chief alloying agents. It is easy to machine and weld, and has high strength for its weight. Most welded tubular steel aircraft structure is made of chrome molybdenum tubing. Chrome molybdenum steels are the SAE 41xx series.
Industry:Aviation
A high-strength copper alloy made of 88% copper, 7% tin, 3% zinc, and 2% lead.
Industry:Aviation
A high-strength electrical conductor made by plating a steel wire with copper. Copperweld is used for high-voltage transmission line, and for certain types of radio antenna where high strength is more important than maximum conductivity.
Industry:Aviation
A high-strength steel pin with a flat head on one end and a hole for a cotter pin on the other end. A flathead pin, called a clevis pin, is used to connect a clevis to an eyebolt or control horn.
Industry:Aviation
A high-strength steel rod used to tie parts of a structure together. Tie rods carry only tensile loads.
Industry:Aviation
A high-strength, high-stiffness composite material made of carbon fibers encased in a resin matrix.
Industry:Aviation
A high-torque DC motor used to crank a reciprocating engine for starting.
