A formula representing, as fully as possible, the Earth's gravity field.
Industry:Earth science
One of a pair of short lines drawn at the opposite edges of a map and perpendicular to the edges, indicating that the line of a grid extends between these marks. In other words, grid ticks are those parts of a grid left after most of each line between the edges of the map has been removed. They are usually used when another system of lines such as a graticule is to be shown in full on the map.
Industry:Earth science
A grid, quadrillage or system of rectangles associated with rectangular coordinates, referred to a single origin, and superposed on and extending over the whole of a map. A military grid is intended to make it easier to obtain coordinates of points on a map.
Industry:Earth science
The temperature at which a mixture of pure, air saturated water, and ice can exist in equilibrium under a pressure of one standard atmosphere.
Industry:Earth science
A graduated ring fitted to a globe so that the plane of the ring contains the center of the globe and is adjustable to be parallel to the horizontal plane for any point on the globe. The horizon ring is used for measuring angles around the horizon at a given point.
Industry:Earth science
(1) That portion of an object from which the greatest amounts of light are reflected to an observer.
Industry:Earth science
(1) The home, land and surrounding buildings where the family dwells. (2) A tract of land owned and occupied as the family home.
Industry:Earth science
A line making the same oblique angle with all those lines of a grid which represent meridians.
Industry:Earth science
An approximation to the azimuthal equidistant map projection from the rotational ellipsoid to the plane and producing an oblique aspect of the graticule, as used by the U.S. National Geodetic Survey for maps of Guam.
