Pombo Island, located between Ambon Island and Haruku Island, has been officially declared a natural conservation area since 1973. Being kept uninhabited by human until today, this 1000-hectares island is a home to the endemic 'pombo' birds (a kind of doves) - from which the name comes - and an ideal paradise for campers, backpackers and nature lovers.

Ilha de pombo, localizado entre a ilha de Ambon e ilha de Haruku, foi oficialmente declarada uma área de conservação natural desde 1973. Sendo mantidos inabitada por humanos até hoje, esta ilha de 1000 hectares é uma casa para as aves endêmicas 'pombo' (uma espécie de pombos) - de que o nome vem - um paraíso ideal para campistas, mochileiros e amantes da natureza.

Pukul manyapu (literally "broom hitting") is an age-old tradition in Mamala and Morela villages in Ambon Island, performed by 20 young men, divided in 2 groups, whipping each other with 1.5 m-long broom sticks. The whipping wounds are then healed with a kind of traditional coconut-palm oil. It is the main part of an annual ceremony at every 7th day of the month of Syawal in Islamic calendar, said to commemorate the defeat of Kapitan Tulukabessy and his warriors when fighting the Dutch collonial forces in the 16th century.

Pukul manyapu (literalmente "vassoura batendo") é uma tradição milenar nas aldeias Mamala e Morela na ilha de Ambon, interpretada por 20 jovens, dividida em 2 grupos, chicoteando uns aos outros com paus de vassoura m de comprimento 1,5. As feridas de chicotadas são então curou com um tipo de óleo de Palma de coco tradicional. É a parte principal de uma cerimônia anual em todos os 7 dias do mês de Syawal no calendário islâmico, disse para comemorar a derrota do Kapitan Tulukabessy e seus guerreiros, quando lutar contra as forças collonial holandesa no século XVI.
